Formed in 2004 in Denver, Colorado, Havok reached a peak with the release of 2017’s “Conformicide”, their fourth full-length. While keeping their thrash metal roots, the band expanded their horizons and incorporated other influences, taking advantage of a composition process that was a lot more inclusive than in their other efforts. Guitarist Reece Scruggs, drummer Pete Webber, and newcomer bassist Nick Schendzielos (Job for a Cowboy, Cephalic Carnage) played a significant role to push main-man David Sanchez into different soundscapes. Lyrically, “Conformicide” has all kinds of observations on today’s society, from political correctness to religion, politics and violence, they seem to be on a mission to point out what’s wrong with the world today. The end result is their most diverse album o date.

Havok has done significant touring to promote the new album, and they’re hitting the road in North America yet again, including an appearance at the prestigious Heavy Montreal Festival, along with Avenged Sevenfold, Baroness, Gojira, Napalm Death and Trivium, among others. Sonic Perspectives author and interviewer Rodrigo Altaf spoke with David Sanchez about the latest album, the past tours, the current state of the music business and what’s next in store for the band.
