Episode #16

On this week’s episode of Off Exhibit we’re going way off exhibit … all the way to Western Maryland. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources manages many programs to help protect and support local wildlife. One such effort is Project Black Bear. Throughout each year DNR wildlife biologists track, monitor and manage the population of wild black bears here in Maryland. Zoo veterinarians join the team effort each spring to help anesthetize and perform health checks on sows and their newly birthed cubs. Learn more about local black bears and why Zoo biologists, like Maryland Zoo Senior Veterinarian Dr. Ellen Bronson, partner with the DNR and others to support wildlife projects here in Maryland. Plus, discover how The Maryland Zoo’s own experts are building more connections and sharing expertise with wildlife professionals across the state.
