In part two of opening mini-series on how our neurons use energy we are talking with Vidhya Rangaraju. We are taking to Tim Ryan’s ex-PhD student Vidhya Rangaraju who is now in the process of setting up her own lab so she can study how our neurons have multiple power generating tiny organs across each part of the neuron. Neurons are the most energy hungry cells in our body with our brain using 25% of the energy in the body despite being only 10% of our body mass. In this episode we talk more about how neurons have adapted to handle their enormous energy requirements and why the receiving and sending portions of a neuron actually need different power creating solutions.
