Emma Holmes joins us on this episode from Bridgewater in the UK. Emma has been a DJ, avid surfer, skateboarder, traveler, and life coach. I wanted to have Emma on this show because she is a perfect example of someone who has a passion for creating and living life on purpose. As a father, one thing that always bothers me is when folks ask my daughter what she wants to be when she grows. Society sets up paradigms that ties so much of our identity to what we “do” instead of who we are. We often allow history and past generations to tell us how we should construct our lives. I'm excited for this conversation with Emma Holmes because she has approached life decisions in a completely different way. She has architected a life that is extremely intentional. We go into not only her life experience so far, but also the mindset shifts that were necessary to make these decisions in an unconventional way.

What you’ll learn in this episode:

  • How Emma created a business that allowed her to surf whenever she wanted
  • How to get out of living your life on autopilot
  • The importance of always doing something that lights you up and how that affects the rest of your life
  • Embracing an unconventional life to find purpose
  • Designing your work based on the lifestyle you want to live
  • Setting the right intentions to align yourself with your vision
  • Examples of ways Emma manifested specific experiences in her life
  • A different and more freeing definition of “responsibility”

Book- The Four Hour Work Week:

Emma Holmes has a passion for creating and living life on purpose.

Emma has been scratching since the year 2000, when she discovered she had a love for fr-fr-fresh scratching and funky hip hop. After much time spent learning techniques and developing her flow, she found a way to break things down for anyone who wants to learn the art. She founded Studio Scratches in 2008 and opened School of Scratch in 2014 and is dedicated to assisting her students to become excellent at the art of scratching. School of Scratch is one of the world’s leading online schools and Emma has built a supportive community to help people learn how to scratch DJ, using a complete set of video tutorials which form her ultimate ‘how to scratch’ DJ course.

Emma applies these same skills as a life coach, where she breaks things down for anyone who wants to learn how to create a more deliberate life. Emma shares a philosophy inspired by this quote by Henry David Thoreau: “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined.” Emma’s coaching clients describe her as: calm, awesome, calm, kind, non-judgmental, and possessing an abundance of positive energy.
