Devote”
Acts 2:42, Psalm 119:97-105

If you want to grow as a disciple of Jesus, the most important thing to do is to devote yourself to the Word of God.

How to love the Word of God:

  1. Meditate on it.
  2. Memorize it.
  3. Obey it.
  4. Live it.
  5. Share it.

Benefits of loving God’s Word:

  1. It will give you wisdom.
  2. It will give you insight.
  3. It will give you discernment.
  4. It will give you direction.

When we love the Word of God like Jesus, we will become more like Jesus.

LifeGroup Questions: Applying the Teaching to Your Life
Language is an important part of connection. What is your favorite version of the Word to read from (NIV, NLT, ESV, MSG, etc)? Explain why.
Do you have a life verse or favorite passage from the Word? Take time as a group to read them out loud. Explain how God has used it to shape your life.
Can a person claim to “continue in the Word” or “be devoted to the Word” while ignoring one of the five subpoints of point 1? Explain your answer.
Read Luke 24:27-32. Have you ever had a time in your life when it felt like the Word was “burning within you”? Describe that to the group.
Do you know how to understand and apply the Bible to your life? What is your method? If you don’t have one, read up on the Inductive Bible Study Method or Pastor Jim’s Triple A Method (Ask, Analyze, Apply, described in the Introduction to the Disciple Journal.)
As a group, pick a passage (perhaps Psalm 119:97-105) and read it out loud from at least 3 translations. Which one seemed to connect the strongest? Discuss why.
Challenge: Make sure everyone in the group knows how to access our churchwide daily devotions. Then commit together as a LifeGroup to read the daily devotions for the next 5 days and then come next week to talk about it.

Core CHRISTlike Characteristic:
Connected to God through the Word and Prayer/Loving God
