Lucky number 7! First, we recap last episode's craziness. Then, we introduce a new segment called You're Finally Here! where we go back to an old Wish You Were Here recommendation and talk about trying it out - in this case, Katherine's shout out to solo travel from Episode 4. Next, we'll talk about an article we read about making friends as a (queer or not queer) adult in Other People Matter: Opinions. Finally we have, of course, Wish You Were Here. ALSO - this week, if you share the podcast and tag us on social media, we'll tell a flattering story about you on the next podcast we record. The person with the most liked post will get a hand drawn image of our favorite memory of them! We love you - thanks for putting our voices in your ears again this week!

Show Notes

Ha-cha-cha and firetruck sirens - welcome to She’s Not From Here. Hey.

First off - the mystery of Katherine’s career. International sex worker or CIA agent? Will you ever find out? (Yes you will. Next episode.)

This week, we are going to recap our thoughts and feelings from last week’s episode. Then we have a new segment called You’re Finally Here! discussing a previous Wish You Were Here. This will be followed by Other People Matter: Opinions where we review articles. Finally, of course, our regular Wish You Were Here recommendations.

Part 1: Episode 6 Recap

Now that we are finally sober after last episode, let’s think about it. They did act slightly differently when they were split into different pairings. Or completely differently, TINA. Let us know how you feel like you change when you’re with other people! You can even send us a recording of your own ménage à trois, the safe-for-work kind.

We have recently been spotted in public as podcast celebrities. Megan was recognized at her brother-in-law’s wedding by one of his coworkers - longtime listerner, first time caller. Katherine was online stalked by JP. “She” had a facebook profile photo of a lovely woman, and sent Katherine a loooong facebook message about the superbowl. Megan found that hilarious. Someday, JP and Katherine will meet IRL. (and welcome to the world baby Jack!)

Part 2: You’re Finally Here!

We go back and talk about Katherine’s Wish You Were Here suggestion from Episode 4: Travel Solo. Megan just had a solo work trip where she went to a restaurant by herself! It was groundbreaking stuff. She did bring her invisibility cloak (slash laptop) and had a very nice lunch. It was a hippy dippy place. This was also the birthplace of the bag of oranges known as Pith. You may remember Pith from social media. He did find his place in the end, in Megan and Alyssa’s stomach.
Pith

Katherine recently got back from Norway! She went by herself (as alone as you can be with God in your heart). She did meet up with some friends from past travels and study abroad along the way. She booked it all about a month in advance on a whim. Even with an invisibility cloak, you can engage much more in people watching. She even ate her burger with delicately her fork and knife.

The coolest thing on her trip that she did by herself was the day-long ferry she took on one of the world’s most beautiful ocean routes. The full trip goes along the entire coast, north to south. It is half commuter ferry and half tourist cruise. It was gorgeous. She also went to the Sverresborg Trondelag Folk Museum in Trondheim, with all these cool old buildings they’ve moved there. Some of them were pretty spooky. Check out Katherine’s recording of the Nightman’s story. It only got creepier from there.

Part 3: Other People Matter [COLON] Opinions

Today, we bring you an article from Autostraddle, one of those LESBIAN websites. We’re talking about an article they had in their advice section called You Need Help: Making Friends as a Queer Adult.

not good at making friends gif

  • Be Your Own Coolest Friend - this is great advice overall. Find the things you like and go for them. Other cool people you will like will be there!
  • Structured Activities are Good for Shyness - like Katherine’s intramural sports recommendation a few weeks ago!
  • Don’t Mind the Age Gap - after Megan’s first sexual innuendo, she notes that she has a lot of friends of different ages. And Alyssa has it nailed down with her TV nights with Gina.
  • Use the Internet - Katherine has been approached by people just wanting to be friends on online dating sites. Or use the internet for the last point - long distance friendships. In a world where snail mail is dying, this is crucial
  • Say You Wanna Be Friends! - just get down to it and tell them you wanna be friends!
  • Fuck Proximity - Distance is FINE. Megan and Katherine somewhat disagree with this. It is a lot harder to keep friendships that sustain you from a long distance. You still need a local support network - it makes a difference. But distance in friendships can be overcome.

Let’s use the internet to be long distance friends! Email us at notfromherepod@gmail.com, tweet us at @notfromherepod, instagram us at @notfromherepod, and comment on our website (here!). Tell us how you have made new friends as an adult. We don’t want to do sex, we want to do fun.

Wish You Were Here

Cue the cheering crowd noises

Katherine: Veronica Mars. She was not a marshmallow when the show was on tv, but on a recent, looong work trip, she watched all three seasons and loved it. She hasn’t seen the movie yet though. She’s a badass girl, she’s super smart, she has all these talents, but she lives a more realistic life than, for example, Buffy. 12 years later, it still totally holds up.
Veronica Mars is a marshmallow

Megan: random shit from Etsy. Today, Megan got two prized etsy possessions. One is a sticker for the space bar on her computer that has planets and a UFO - because it’s a space bar. The other is a Hogwarts acceptance letter that she sent to a friend as a surprise, with the train ticket and school packing list and very specific bedroom address and everything.
