This men protecting men shit just got real. We have been trained at a young age to disregard the actions of men... we've heard it all before “boys will be boys” "oh, he pushed you because he likes you, sweetie" IM SORRY, WHAT!?
In this episode, we discuss the uproar of recent events and how they were handled (or mishandled). We discuss how we are well aware that “not all men” are abusers, but all men are responsible for doing and being better.
Women are taught to change the way they dress and how to "properly" act around men because men can’t control themselves? Women are raised to fear walking alone, to carry protection, to let their friends and family know when they're home safe, to not show "too much" skin, to fear meeting a man on a dating app... The issue isn’t about women needing protection from men. It's about putting an end to men protecting men who are hurting women, it's about actively calling out these behaviors, and it's about FINALLY teaching boys and men how to be our allies.
We are always learning, always evolving, and we hope this episode can open the eyes and ears of anyone who may have needed it.
If you are suffering from sexual harassment or abuse, you are not alone. If you need help please call 800.656.4673 and you’ll be routed to a local sexual assault provider in your area. Trained staff can provide confidential support and resources.
