Is this the first podcast to be released in 2017? No. Is it the best? Maybe. Is it something else? Yes.
Oh man. Welcome back, me. In this episode, everyone’s favorite characters, the Singularity Bros (don’t question it), travel to the future. All the way to the year 2017. Where are all the humans? At adult sleepaway camps, it turns out. That, or grounded by their AI overparents. The future only lives once (I said don’t question it).
Notes
- You guys know about Murphy, right? He—yes, he— is the AI artist responsible for such masterpieces as
- Jordan Peterson, some guy that Zach has a crush on, was recently on Joe Rogan’s podcast. I dunno nuffin about it. You tell me.
- “We don’t understand how AI make most decisions, so now algorithms are explaining themselves”
- When we were tender, younger bros, we were kinda into these pseudoscientific “documentaries” like What the Bleep Do We Know!?—referred to by esteemed physicist Lisa Randall as “the bane of scientists”—and Zeitgeist. Wow. How far we’ve come (really, don’t question it). But seriously, folks, I bet there’s still something to enjoy about these quirky films. That said, I bet on a lot of stuff. I may have a problem.
- A “boring company”? Oh, Elon.
- In case you missed it, here’s our chat with Steve Maxwell here.
- They aren’t giving us money or discounts. We just really love the BJJ Globetrotters 2017 summer camp. Moreover, we think camp/intensive/retreat activities are going to grow in popularity. Many of us have lost our intimate communities, but some savvy entrepreneurs are filling the void with events that bring us together around our most important shared interests and values. To wit, Pizza Camp.
- Google employees just live in the parking lot. They just do that.
- Huzzah! I found that story I was talking about, the one about the two guys dating Love Plus girlfriend sims.
- Here’s that infamous clip from Weeds again, in case you need to get your head right.
- If you haven’t heard it yet, check out my interview with marriage historian Stephanie Coontz, from the early days of the podcast.
- Decision-making is a fundamentally emotional process.
