Across time and cultures, angels are one of the consistent features.

And while there are many different types of angels fulfilling a variety of roles, their presence is found just about everywhere. What is the need they seem to be serving for humanity? Is it a means to explain the unexplainable, a means to bridge the gap between competing religions, or something else?
