The British-Indian writer who has faced death threats for his novel The Satanic Verses, was stabbed on Friday while on stage at an event in New York state. In 1989, Iran's then leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa, that has remained ever since, calling for Sir Salman's death.
