The 2017 racing season is already boasting a variety of new machinery from the World Rally Championship to Formula 1. With the dawn of new regulations, one of the most interesting parts of the industry to pay attention to will be the largely-changing LMP2 field. The European Le Mans Series and World Endurance Championship will see the likes of Dallara, Ligier, Oreca, and Riley/Multimatic duke it out for the top spot of privateer sports car racing. Sure, the market was forced to four manufacturers, but the variety of design could not be more different! In the American ISMA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the manufacturers have taken the base LMP2 chassis and outfitted them with their own power plants and styling. A fire-breathing 6.2L V8 from Cadillac, the elegantly boosted Kodo design of Mazda, and Nissan’s heart of Godzilla are set for an amazing fight for the honors on American soil in the shape of Daytona Prototype international machines. With all the changes in store, there’s plenty of detail to sift through. Dusty and Scot go through the field of LMP2 and DPi machines and give them a once-over before they’re showcased at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
