Today on Sojourner Truth, our special on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.! As we hear the words of Dr. King, we focus on specific struggles that are today carrying out his message and legacy. Specifically, we discuss the ongoing teachers strike underway in Los Angeles. Our guest is Stacey Joy, a National Board Certified teacher, Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year and Los Angeles Unified School District Teacher of the Year. Joy has a masters degree in education administration. She has been teaching in elementary education for 33 years and is a product of LAUSD. We also take a look at how the charge of anti-semitism is being used in an attempt to silence or dampen support for Palestinian people. Our guest is Estee Chandler, a member of the Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) Board of Directors. In 2010 Estee Chandler founded the Los Angeles chapter of JVP, a national organization promoting solutions based on human rights and international law for both Palestinians and Jewish Israelis that works in broad coalition with other like-minded organizations. Along with Nagwa Ibrahim, she is a Host/Producer of Middle East in Focus in Pacifica Radios KPFK and in 2017, she launched the Middle East Minute daily news update.
