Today on Sojourner Truth: Bernie Sanders wowed the nation in a controversial Town Hall on Fox News. Along with fundraising, hes also ahead in the polls. Nevertheless, the establishment of the Democratic Party is seemingly in denial about Bernie being the frontrunner in the early race for President. The establishment is hoping for a more centrist candidate reflecting what is seen to be a rift in the Party between progressive and centrist members of Congress. Does Bernie stand a chance against the Democratic Party political establishment? Our guests are Diane May and Norman Solomon. May is the Communications Director of Our Revolution, a leading non-profit advocating for issues like Medicare for All and tuition-free public college. Solomon is a journalist, media critic, author and activist who was elected as a Bernie Sanders delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 2016. For our Campaigners for Black Lives series, Dr. Melina Abdullah joins us to discuss AB 392, the controversial bill in the California Assembly that would limit when police can fire their weapons. Also, there are hundreds of political prisoners in the U.S. who have been incarcerated for decades, including Dr. Mutulu Shakur, stepfather to the late rap artist Tupac Shakur. Dr. Shakur has been a target of the illegal Counterintelligence Program carried out by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (COINTELPRO). This was a secret police strategy used in the U.S. starting in the 1960s that led to the deaths and incarcerations of numerous progressive political activists. Joining us to discuss Dr. Shakur's case and more is Peter Schey, the executive director of the Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law. Mr. Schey and the Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law help represent Dr. Shakur in the legal system. Lastly, our weekly Earth Minute, courtesy of the Global Justice Ecology Project.
