Episode 009

Soul Donkey Music

This episode was inspired by a photograph taken by Brenna Casey in 2005. Originally titled “Marvin’s Blues,” it captures the sadness expressed by a loyal dog when informed that he couldn’t go out dancing until the dawn with his owners. As a parent, I look at this picture and realize this is what it feels like when the children are in bed early on a weekend night but the body, soul, and mind are too wiped out to leave the house. Then I dance to Fela Kuti soul music in the living room and feel like I am living again.
