For this episode of SOUNDFOOD, we are joined by our beloved friend and infinite source of inspiration Maria Calderon. Maria is an interdisciplinary folk artist of Peruvian indigenous descent. We share a conversation inspired by her unique life journey and touch upon the importance of actively participating in remembering our native ancestors, honoring our cultural lineages, and the power of being present with Mother Nature. Maria opens up about her family’s experience fleeing from South America and shares how her culture and ancestry are reflected in her art and reverence for plant dyes and color. We discuss grounding rituals, self-care practices, and the significance of the rainbow in Maria’s work as well as her evolving relationship to her body and health, on all levels. We also explore the idea of land stewardship and the importance of reconnecting to our earth through community and ancestral roots.

Thank you for tuning in. If you are able to donate to SOUNDFOOD we would be so grateful for your support. Everything and anything you can give helps us continue to share these conversations with the world.

Infinite gratitude!
