My guest this week is an expert in cyber security and the human side of security. She is a winner of the Top 100 Women In Tech Award. Previously she has worked for a Police Cyber Crime Unit and has also spent time working in Counter Terrorism Intelligence. She speaks around the world and regularly appears on BBC radio shows discussing topical cyber security issues. Today she is going to give us some insights into her world.

Ladies and gentlemen please welcome Lisa Forte.

Bio

Lisa Forte began her career working in anti-piracy intelligence off the coast of Somalia, before moving into counter-terrorism intelligence for a UK Government agency.

Lisa researched the process of online radicalisation by terrorist groups and the risky social engineering process undertaken by terrorist recruiters.

She then moved into one of the UK Police Cyber-Crime Units where she got to know the attackers’ mind sets and methodologies well. The unit dealt with serious cyber-crime cases working closely with agencies such as the FBI. Victim companies ranged from small to multi-national organisations and almost all the cases involved social engineering.

Lisa Forte left in 2017 to start her own company, Red Goat Cyber Security LLP, with the goal of reflecting the techniques and methodologies actually being employed by hackers. They provide the only GCHQ certified social engineering training in the UK for staff as well as social engineering security testing and wargaming cyber-attack exercises to help organisations prepare for an attack.

Recorded: 18th July 2019
