She is an angel investor! She is an art collector! She is a podcast host, and a blogger, and a foodie, and a mom. How does Joanne Wilson do it all? Simple. With her super powers! In this episode Joanne tells us about how she got the name 'Gotham Gal', why she collects art, what she looks for in investment opportunities, and what she thinks is the biggest business opportunity in the art world today.

About Joanne Wilson

Joanne got her start in retail and wholesale. During the 1990s’ dot-com boom, she worked on the media side of the technology industry. She has chaired a few nonprofits and has sat on numerous boards in a variety of fields. She has been a-stay-at-home mom, she has been a working mom. A city dweller, a suburbanite (albeit briefly!).

These days she finds herself in a different career, another turn in the road. In 2007, she made her first angel investment. Since then, her portfolio has grown to include more than 90 companies. She has also focused her thesis on female entrepreneurs — a decision that is more practical than philanthropic. Women founders tend to be tenacious and thorough. They ask questions and listen. They are great leaders.

Her female founder thesis led her to create The Women’s Entrepreneurs Festival. This event is an incredible combination of inspiration, information and validation. Year after year, their goal has been to create an intimate setting and a spirited agenda designed for robust conversation and purposeful connections.

You can keep tabs on everything she is up to at gothamgal.com or on twitter @thegothamgal and be sure to check out her podcast Positively Gotham Gal on soundcloud.
