When you’re feeling depressed, it can be difficult to snap yourself out of it—especially when you don’t feel like doing anything. We’ll discuss how moving your body and working up a sweat doing something that you enjoy can help to shift your energy. Finally, we’ll talk about the importance of assessing how you are feeling and why you are feeling that way so you can develop strategies to manage depression in the future. POINT #1: Everyone Feels Depressed Sometimes It’s normal to be in a bad mood and feel like you don’t want to do anything from time to time, especially after certain events trigger feelings of anger or frustration. Depression can slow you down and halt your productivity. When this happens, it is important to snap yourself back into a good frame of mind as quickly as possible. POINT #2: You Have the Tools to Combat Depression Your daily actions provide you with the science and tools to combat depression. Even if you don’t feel like doing your daily actions, living the Warriors Way teaches you to do it anyway. If you see this slowdown as temporary, you will be more likely to do the work required to snap out of it. POINT #3: Sweating Shifts Energy Studies have shown that sweating can reduce or alleviate symptoms of depression. Moving your body and working up a sweat is a great way to speed yourself back up. Doing a physical activity that you enjoy will shift bad energy and boost your mood—and if physical activity doesn’t work the first time, do it again. QUESTION OF THE DAY: What have you done today to work up a sweat? CHALLENGE OF THE DAY: Assess how you are feeling today on a scale of 1-10 and why you are feeling that way. If you are feeling bad, write down what you did to shift your energy so you can create strategies for coping with depression in the future.
