Quote that Changed Cliff’s Life….

Cliff found that even with his habit of scheduling his work according to a level of importance, he still had too much work, too little time and too much distraction in his daily life. He made the conscience decision to put those distractions out of his life.

He now waits until he is in the office (even though it is a home office) and created his to-do list for the day before he reads his emails, listens to messages or checks social media sites. This allows him to concentrate his focus on the top six priorities he has set to move him from where he is today to where he wants to be in his professional life.

The old Cliff would fit someone in simply because they asked for his time. He discovered he was taking up time that had been set aside to work on growing his business. Even though he currently pays the bills by the revenue from his one-on-one consulting fees, that task has moved to the number seven spot on his list of things to accomplish each day. He now says yes, only when it is someone that he really wants to work with in an on-going relationship. Among his top priorities is creating products that he can provide for those he does consult with and sell as a separate product to anyone needing that particular subject. He is now working toward his long-term goals.

Tracy said that is exactly what Timothy Ferriss talks about in his book, “The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich”. Ferris says you fill your time with busy work rather than doing tasks that will move you forward to obtain your goals.

Tracy’s business had a “no e-mail zone” from 10 AM to noon to allow his employees, as well as himself, to work on tasks that mattered for the business without distraction. There was a message that went out stating the company policy and instructing the person how to contact their party, should they deem their communication an emergency. It worked well.

What we truly believe, our core beliefs, is what we can do. If you don’t believe in yourself or your product, neither will anyone else. Believing is the first step to succeeding.

Cliff got an email that said getting celebrities to agree to an interview for a radio show was much easier than getting them to agree to be interviewed on a podcast. The sender wanted Cliff to address the best way to persuade them to be on a podcast. Cliff said the first step was to stop thinking it was more difficult to get them on a podcast or the sender would never get them to agree. The sender needed to believe it could happen, or it never would.

If people don’t like/respect you or what you stand for and don’t support you, choose not to be around them. Spend your time where people appreciate you and your work.
