Summit Healthcare Provides Teleneurology Care

In an effort to offer neurological services to the area Summit Healthcare continues to provide state-of-the-art telemedicine coverage to patients in the White Mountains. Current telemedicine programs offered through the Emergency Room at Summit Healthcare are Telestroke, Teleconcussion, and Teleneurology. Summit Healthcare is able to provide patients suffering from a stroke or having neurological symptoms a direct consultation with a board-certified neurologist 24/7. Through video conference technology we are able to connect the neurologist to the patient at Summit without having to leave the mountain for a consultation and provide our patients with quality care at Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center.

More and more patients in remote locations are being served by telemedicine, which is the use of medical information exchanged from one site to another via electronic communications to improve a patient’s clinical health status. For example, Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center offers telestroke services that allow a patient in our Emergency Department to be seen by a board-certified neurologist who can make a diagnosis and then deliver services through instructions to our emergency staff.

Summit Healthcare also works with telemedicine partners to provide neurology, concussion, nursery, radiology, and psychiatry services. Planning is underway for telemedicine burn services. We are also developing a pilot program to integrate primary care and behavioral health as part of a grant-funded partnership.
