Show Summary

In today’s show our guest will talk to us about the critical importance of entrepreneurs getting involved with business coaches, mastermind groups and networking groups; he’s author of the book “Positive Thinking will Never Change Your Life but This Book Will” – he is David Essel. The first chapter of the book will available for download at the end of the show.

Who needs a networking group? Why?

Anyone who has ever achieved massive success in life will not tell you they did it on their own and one of the main principles of the book is that you have to be willing to constantly invest the time, money and effort into growing your business and for even the brightest entrepreneur that means getting involved with some form networking group, meet up groups, masterminds groups or business consultants. David speaks of his mentor who went from homeless to multi-billionaire and when asked of his secret to success – he said mastermind groups and consultants. Therefore David encourages all his clients to do the same.

What is a mastermind group?

A group of entrepreneurs together – it is led by one person; every week there is an individual in the “hot seat.” They talk about their business for sixty seconds, they talk about their successes for sixty seconds; they spend two minutes talking about where they’re not making it, what their greatest blocks are, what their greatest challenges are and there’s a ratio: sixty seconds – who I am, sixty seconds – what am I doing well. A hundred and twenty seconds here are my blocks because as stressed in the book, your challenge lies not within what you do well but in what you avoid, what you suck at, what you don’t like to do. When the person speaks for two minutes then the group gives advice; the person in the hot seat cannot reply to anyone’s advice, they can only write down the recommendations. Seven days later they come back and share the action steps that they took and let us know what worked and what didn’t.

The concept would be the same if you work with a business coach or consultant – the key is to talk about your fears, vulnerabilities and what you don’t want to do.

How to find a mastermind group?

God did the world a favor when Google was created – so if you don’t know an answer, Google does. So wherever you are in the US, go ahead and Google “mastermind groups” in your area and see what shows up.

Why do you need a mastermind group or a business coach?

As entrepreneurs on a daily basis we gravitate towards tasks we like doing – that’s natural; but the block is what you don’t enjoy doing so if you don’t feel comfortable going to networking groups – that’s the first step. You have to step out of you comfort zone and go make it happen – quit hiding behind excuses; when you get with a group that has different visions they will enlighten and help guide you to answers you may not have thought of.
