Over the course of 260 plus episodes on topics ranging from golf and fitness to mental game, diet, and nutrition, and many other topics revolving around the health and well being of golfer, there has been a lot of information to take in.

In a world where information is overly abundant and can many times be contradictory or downright confusing, sometimes it’s important to take a step back and takes some time to digest and process what you’ve learned.

I know that for me, as the host of a show where I get to talk to super smart people in a wide array of topics, the amount of information can sometimes reach an “overwhelming” status. I can often go into the mode of asking myself questions like . . .

“How am I supposed to remember all of this?”

“How am I going to be able to apply all of these great tips and advice in my real life?”

“Why don’t I know this stuff already?”

“How are these people so much smarter than me?

So if these questions ever cross your mind when you are listening to some of our incredible guests, just know that I’m right there with you. I mean it’s hard to keep up with the best in the world 😉

So in today’s episode, I wanted to reflect on just a few topics that over the years I have seen through a couple of different lenses and have recently either shifted my view a bit or realized that there may be a different way to do things than I have in the past.

While none of these are massive revelations and some of them may seem very obvious, I often find that what seems like it should be obvious may take us longer to learn that we would think.

The following are in no specific order of importance or scale, just simply some thoughts that came to mind that I have been kicking around and thought you might be interested in.

5 Things I Thought I Knew About Golf and Fitness:

1.) Diet:

There is no Right or Wrong way to do it!

A recent podcast and article by Jason Phillips introduced the concept of “The Triangle of Awareness” which specifies that nutrition should be looked at from the angle of what is the goal, Performance, Aesthetics, or Longevity. And the kicker is that each of these is much different than the other when it comes to structuring how you should each.

2.) Do Golfers Need Cardio?

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always believed that there were benefits to doing cardio in some form, especially short burst intervals or what some would call HIIT style cardio. But over the past year or two, I have come to view it as being even more important.

Now, do they “NEED” cardio to truly be better at golf? Probably not. But do I recommend everyone do some sort of “cardio,” my answer is now YES. Listen in to hear more of the explanation.

3.) Walking the Golf Course is Important

I never walked the golf course growing up. In fact I really didn’t play much golf growing up, so when I did start playing, I just thought you were supposed to take a cart all the time.

Turns out I missed out on a lot of benefits that I am just now learning to appreciate.

4.) You can’t do it all at once.

This is a lesson that I have had to learn over and over and over again. And I am sure this isn’t the last time that I will have to recreate this “Ah-Ha” moment for myself.

Multitasking is a farce and the more you try to do at one time with your workouts, your diet, your business, the less real work you will actually get done.

Pick a goal, focus on it intently, work your butt off to achieve it and then set a new goal. Why is this so hard to remember?

5.) Are we (18STRONG) a golf company? Are we a fitness company?

Well, I would say we are neither and we are both at the same time. But ultimately, we are a habit-building company for people that are into fitness, golf, and enjoying life more.

We are like you. We want to get better at a lot of things and we want to help you do the same. Hopefully, we can help you by sharing what we’ve learned over the years, but don’t think we aren’t learning just as much from you on a daily basis!

So thank you!
