Ready to Host a Rocking Dinner Party? We’ve Got You Covered.

We love to entertain. We think that GREAT memories are created with family and friends around food. You are well on your way to a great dinner party by using some of the awesome recipes you will find on this blog and in The 4 Blades Magazine. To seal the deal, there are just a handful of simple factors that to consider.

Click on the play button at the top or download this in iTunes or on Stitcher Radio (and don’t forget to leave a review – it really makes our day!)

Here is the bottom line: a good dinner party happens when the guests feel relaxed and connected to the other guests. If they can walk away from the night and say “I really enjoyed spending time with that group of people”, you’ve won.

Here are six ways to host a rocking dinner party:

  1. Think about your guests.

Everyone wants to feel comfortable at a dinner party, regardless of whether they know people or not. It is your job as the host to make your guests feel as comfortable as possible. Will your guests already know each other? How many people will be there?

In the podcast you will hear our top tips for helping your guests to have a great time.

  1. Consider having a theme.

Themes can sure can add a lot of fun. Before you shy away from the idea, theme doesn’t have to mean dress up, themed food, or naff decorations (although, it totally could if you wanted it to!)

In the podcast you will hear about some of the themes we have hosted, and the way you can bring those themes together.

Here we are at Bec’s Italian restaurant-themed murder mystery party:

The Dinner Party Issue has a Mexican Fiesta Dinner Party (be sure to check out last week’s episode too) and an Italian Dinner Party AND a Summer BBQ, with time lines, shopping lists, menus and recipes..

  1. Maximise Your Place and Space.

Consider how many people you have attending, and your theme, to decide what would be the optimal place for your dinner party. It doesn’t have to be expensive… in fact, sometimes if you are on a tight budget it can be better to go FUNNY rather than ELEGANT. Maybe some tacky red and white checked tablecloths for an Italian dinner party.

You can also explore different areas of your home, maybe string up some fairy lights for an enchanted garden party.

You can go for a colour scheme. You can think decorations / adornments for table and surrounds. Heaps of places like Kmart and Big W now have all of there party gear separated into colours.

You can print menus for the ‘dining’ experience. Search for printable menus online or you can use the menus from The Dinner Party Issue.

We cover all of these options and more in this week’s podcast episode.

  1. Get the What, When and How Loud of Your Music RIGHT.

Music can be theme based, or can absolutely be whatever you like. Create or borrow a playlist and have it on a bit louder as people arrive and then turn it down later in the night as people are more comfortable and chatting. We love Spotify and there are playlists for everything.

  1. Organise Some Help.

Do you need someone to help you enjoy the night? Maybe you want some help in the kitchen or serving the food. Have a look at the resources you have at hand, including:

  • Husband / Wife?
  • Your kids?
  • Other family members?
  • Babysitter
  • A platform like Airtasker
  1. Make The Food Fabulous!

We totally have this covered for you. This month’s edition of The 4 Blades Magazine is The Dinner Party Issue. It’s packed with over 40 recipes for you to enjoy. There are recipes for 7 complete dinner parties, printable shopping lists, cooking plans and menus.

What’s your rocking dinner party tip? Leave us a note in the comments below!
