When impresario Norman Granz launched Verve Records in late 1955, he couldn’t have come up with a better word connoting vigor, spirit and enthusiasm in the jazz world. By launching the careers of artists such as, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Stan Getz, Bill Evans, Billie Holiday, and Oscar Peterson, among others the groundbreaking Verve Records has brought “The Jazz Of America” into millions of homes around the world. In this episode of The Accutron Show, our hosts talk to James Krents, Executive Vice President of Verve Records about the "meaning" and evolution of jazz from its roots until today.
