On this episode of The Art of Fitness Steve Talks with Tony Blauer. Tony is a legend in the world of combatives. One of a very small group of experts on the subject who has successfully disseminated his work across all combat communities including: self-defense, combat sport, and military and law enforcement, Tony’s research into the psychology and physiology of fear mitigation and confrontation management has influenced many. Tony has been teaching personal self-defense to individuals, military, and law enforcement for over 35 years. Early in his teaching career, he had a student that got messed up pretty bad in a street fight, and that incident made Tony reflect real hard on what it was he was teaching which ultimately gave way to The SPEAR system. Based on an 80000-year-old DNA, SPEAR teaches one to tap into the amygdala’s natural fight or flight response in order to utilize the human instinct to flinch. This gross motor natural phenomenon, wired deep inside of all of us, is what Tony feels is the very thing that can be used as a weapon for self preservation when forced into a violent situation.
