What does a joyful Church look like? How can we have true joy? What are the things that produce joy?
Joy and happiness are different. 2/3 of Americans are unhappy. Happiness is hard to keep, based on circumstances and fulfilled expectations. Happiness is based on happenings. Joy is different. It is from God, independent of circumstances… Paul was in prison while writing the epistle of joy!
“But if happiness, the fleeting feeling of exhilaration, is elusive, joy is not. Biblical joy, the settled conviction that God sovereignly controls the events of life for believers’ good and His glory, is available to all who obey Him” - MacArthur, J. F., Jr.
In Philippians the word “joy, glad, rejoice” used 15 times
“Joy is the serious business of heaven” – CS Lewis
Here are eight marks of a joyful Church. May God make this true of us this year.
