This episode is all about curbing your emotional spending and to have this conversation, my guest on the show is certified financial coach, Ericka Young. Ericka is the president and founder of Tailor-Made Budgets which she opened in 2005 after she and her husband Chris climbed their way out of nearly $100,000 in debt. She is a certified financial coach and combines her passion for helping people with creative debt reduction techniques so everyone can have a path to financial freedom. She is also the author of the best-selling book, “Naked and Unashamed: 10 Money Conversations Every Couple Must Have”. What we discussed this episode: - On this episode, Ericka and I had a conversation on emotional spending and how it can derail your finances - She shares examples of her own emotional spending including upgrading her car vs. repairing her car, essentially trading a $1,000 repair for a $20,000 car loan and her husband having to take her credit card away from her. - She shares how she worked through dealing with her emotional spending, and how she was able to adjust her mindset about money in order to pay off that nearly $100,000 in debt alongside her husband. - She also shares what it’s like to live a debt-free life, one she has lived for the last 10 years, and provides actionable tips on how you can accomplish the same thing too including how to make yourself accountable, being ok with your emotions as a woman, being mindful of the positive emotions that can trigger emotional spending and more. How to keep in touch with Ericka: - You can keep in touch with Ericka on her website over at http://tailormadebudgets.com where you can also download her free ebook “Have your cake and eat it too”.
