Shelley Enger assists STEM-focused students with their college applications, and she developed courses that she teaches to highly motivated high school students about the process of research science. She is also a seasonal Freshman Application Reader for UC Berkeley.
Her interest in working with STEM students derives from her background as a research scientist. Shelley graduated from UC Berkeley with a major in Microbiology & Immunology, and then worked as a lab technician in a research lab for 3 years. She returned to school to earn a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Epidemiology at UCLA, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the USC Keck School of Medicine. She conducted cancer epidemiology research for nearly ten years at Kaiser Permanente, before becoming a research consultant for a start-up medical device company, work she continues to this day.
