Phil Demers is a former Marineland animal trainer who is known as the @walruswhisperer. He has been in a legal battle with Marineland since his departure in 2012, being sued for $1.5 million for plotting to steal a walrus named Smooshi that Phil had imprinted on and that believed him to be her mother.

His story has gained national attention over the past 10 years, including where I heard of him while he was a guest on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast multiple times over that span.

Phil and I talked about how he found himself working at Marineland at 22 years of age in the first place, the mental impact of taking animals away from their mothers, what the future holds for current captive marine mammals, and even some discussion about Phil's musical interests and past experience as a touring musician.

Fantastic episode that I hope you enjoy and SHARE with all your friends! This is one that everyone should hear! Follow on social media @thatcuriousjones and Stay Curious!
