Laurel Richie brings to the WNBA more than 30 years of consumer marketing, corporate branding, public relations, and corporate management experience; and most recently she was the Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for the Girl Scouts of the USA. So without a doubt, Richie stepped into the position highly decorated and highly qualified. However, unlike previous presidents who had basketball experience running through their veins, Laurel had NO basketball experience listed on her bio; yet the Cleveland native grew up in and around basketball and brought a much-needed fan’s perspective to the position. To her credit and foresight, her background with the prestigious Girl Scout organization provided the necessary framework for selling and transfering the concept of "empowerment" with the talents and capabilities of the young women of the WNBA. And, with a dynamic background, a sharp business mind and keen marketing acumen, she set out to bring in new fans while furthering the reach of the league into mainstream America. Now at the helm of the national professional women’s sports league, Laurel has combined her exceptional marketing and brand management skills with undeniable enthusiasm and excitement to help propel young women & girls into leaders. It's no question she came to the WNBA at such a pivotal time in its history where her experience and expertise is key to continuing the growth and success of the league.
