The Dog Show #450 - October 11, 2017
Guest: Bronwen Dickey, author of "Pit Bull: The Battle Over an American Icon". This book offers a much needed opportunity for a balanced and educated conversation about this controversial breed. "Pit Bull" is a good start to understanding the history of the breed and the aspects of human psychology and sociology that play into this challenge. Julie's only complaint about the book is that it doesn't acknowledge that aggression in Pitties, when it is there, is usually toward other dogs, not humans. The book sites dog bite statistics toward people in its defense of the breed, but that is not understanding the nature of the breed. Otherwise, this is an excellent book and a must-read!
