Miami Dolphins Tales From The Deep

A multi-sport star in his native New Jersey, Jim Kiick went on to lead the Wyoming Cowboys in rushing from 1965-67 becoming the first player ever to earn first-team All-WAC honors three times. Kiick was selected by the then-AFL’s Miami Dolphins in the fifth round of the 1968 draft. He quickly forged a bond with Larry Csonka that lead to the duo being dubbed “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” Kiick’s versatility on the field helped him become a key figure in the Dolphins reign of the early 70’s including back-to-back Super Bowl titles, which of course also featured the 1972 Perfect Season. In The Tank, Kiick fondly recalls his friendship with Csonka, while not so fondly remembering Don Shula’s infamous 12-minute run. Jim discusses who did the blocking in the team’s famed backfield that also featured Mercury Morris, reveals who actually placed an alligator in Coach Shula’s shower, and shares some insight into where his athleticism comes from. Special thanks to Lori Musto and the staff at Independence Hall for hosting The Fish Tank and, more importantly, for the care they are providing to Jim.
