In this episode of The Functional Medicine Radio Show, Dr. Carri’s special guest Dr. Jared Seigler talks about boosting the immune system.

Dr. Seigler is a chiropractor whose passion is to help his patients regain their health through Functional and Lifestyle Medicine. This personal quest was sparked by watching the health of his loved ones degrade over time while conventional medicine provided no real answers.

Initially starting as a personal trainer, Dr. Seigler had an insatiable appetite for knowledge on how to better the health of his clients. By helping patients identify the root cause of their disease and giving them the tools to regain their health, Dr. Seigler is able to not only compliment his patient’s current health care, but to fill the gaps left by conventional medicine.

Main Questions Asked:

  • How does autoimmune disease affect the brain?
  • How can infections trigger autoimmune disease?
  • How can we get an autoimmune system to act normally again?
  • What advice can you give to parents about asking to change the vaccination schedule?
  • Do you have any particular recommendations for the listeners?

Key Points Made by Dr. Jared Seigler:

  • Autoimmune issues are one of the most common causes of death.
  • The environment is how genes express themselves; controlling the environment is a potential option.
  • Autoimmune disease may be the background cause of other issues like heart disease.
  • A lot of infections like to hide in the nervous system.
  • Pathogens generally attack the areas they can defeat.
  • Getting a low antibody count doesn’t necessarily mean the infection is gone, it may mean the immune response is knocked out.
  • Stress and pregnancy are other common causes of autoimmune disease.
  • Pregnancy, when compounded with other diseases, can trigger autoimmune problems.
  • Vaccinations are not the most effective way to teach the immune system how to deal with an infection.
  • Children are rarely screened for their susceptibility to autoimmune disease before being vaccinated.
  • Eliminate all grains and non-organic food from your diet to begin balancing the immune system.
  • If the parents of a child are at risk for autoimmune problems, you should reconsider the vaccination schedule.
  • There haven’t been any studies to see how safe the current vaccination schedule is.
  • If possible, avoid thimerosal, aluminium and ask to have single viruses instead of multiples injected all at once.
  • The blood brain barrier doesn’t develop until the child is two years old.
  • The brain is generally very secure to prevent pathogens from infecting brain tissue.
  • Attitude is very important: a bad attitude can lead to stress, which can trigger or exacerbate autoimmune disease.
  • You have to address the environment if you want to deal with an autoimmune disease.
  • Don’t wait until you are already sick to take control of your health.
