The current Canadian Ambassador, (then Manitoba NDP Premier) Gary Doer ran from appearing on The Great Canadian Talk Show on campus station Kick-FM, and former Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz described the radio experience to city council as "first you get grilled, then you get cross-examined". The show pioneered the integration of student broadcasters, social media postings, and community voices to dominate the drive-time slot in Winnipeg, breaking story after story.
Only illegal actions by agents of the NDP-funded college on the radio station board, after pressure from the government-friendly editor of the cities biggest daily newspaper, stopped the rising tide of populist radio in Nov. 2010. He responded by using Freedom of Information laws to uncover documented proof of a conspiracy between power-brokers to silence community broadcasters, embarrassed the culprits, filed a lawsuit against them, and re-established TGCTS as a groundbreaking local podcast.

It is the only half-hour on Winnipeg TV dedicated to public affairs and exposes the dirty games played by politicians, bureaucrats, Crown Corporations, and their friends in corporate newsrooms, proudly standing up for families, taxpayers, the poor, and those without a voice in the mainstream.
