Having successfully completed the trek to the South Pole, double amputee Duncan Slater could easily have rested on his laurels, but instead he decided to take on an even more daunting challenge - the Marathon Des Sables. Touted as the toughest land race on earth, participants cover 252km through some of the most inhospitable terrain on the planet - the Sahara desert.
