The HOME Film Podcast: July 2022
Episode aired Tue 2 August 2022
Hosted by Karen Gabay
Special guests Rachel Hayward, Prof. Andy Willis, Philip Kennedy, Chris Salewicz, Lee Haven Jones, Niamh Thornton
This month we discuss the new release highlights Official Competition (26 Aug) and Free Chol Soo Lee (19 Aug). Rachel Hayward interviews director Lee Haven Jones about his upcoming Welsh language horror The Feast (19 Aug), while Karen speaks to Chris Salewicz on the re-release of The Harder They Come (5 Aug), celebrating its 50th anniversary. Besides its credentials as an explosive action thriller with a killer soundtrack, it is universally credited with introducing reggae and the roots movement to the world as a serious cultural proposition.
We also speak to Andy Willis on the upcoming Flying Fighters of Taiwan (Sat 6 – Wed 31 Aug), a film season of sword-wielding warriors and epic wuxia action! Niamh Thornton, Reader in Latin American Studies and the University of Liverpool, joins us to discuss Mexican Golden Age Cinema (Sun 14 – Wed 24 Aug), a season of Mexican classics, film noir and screen goddesses in newly restored and digitised prints.
