On this episode of the Law Enforcement Social Media Podcast and COPS on Blab we talk about distracted driving. Distracted driving has become a major issue not just in the US, but throughout the world. April is distracted driving month in the state of California. The goal is to bring awareness to the dangers of distracted driving and educate drivers. We have seen an increase in traffic accidents caused specifically by texting, snapping and streaming and driving. We are passionate about this topic because it has become a major problem and I know of someone personally who has been affected by distracted driving. A friend’s brother was killed by someone who was watching a youtube video while driving. You ask how risky distracted driving is. Well, here are a few statistics.
  • You are 4 times more likely to crash while talking on your phone
  • Up to 23 times more likely to crash while texting
  • 3 times more likely to crash while grabbing for an object
There are three types of distracted driving:
  1. Visual- taking your eyes off the road.
  2. Manual- taking your hands off the steering wheel.
  3. Cognitive- taking your mind off the road.
