What is Curated Content?
- Curated content is a collection of content and resources from around the web.
- If you shared a link with your followers before, you curated content.
- Make that content relevant to your followers/readers.
- Curated content also has a lot of potential to rank well in search.
What is your agency goal?
- Show agency spirit?
- Safety mission in mind?
- High thefts in jurisdiction, shopping malls etc?
- Collaboration with retailers?
Do you have a theme?
- Decide if you will have a theme for your holiday schedule
- Show off your holiday spirit by adding a touch of festivity to your website, and social media accounts.
- Carry a unified theme across all platforms.
- Canva or PicMonkey are good tools creative content
It's time for some content...
- Look what you published last year and repurpose the content.
- If not, create evergreen content this year.
- Create content around current trends.
- Use curation tools like Hootsuit, Feedly, Pocket and Twitter Lists
- Crowd Source Content - Look through comments from recent posts. You may have a holiday/any story there.
- Give your audience safety tips. - Useful (safe humor) videos about shopping. (online and in-person shopping)
- Holiday Toy Drives, Food Drives, Blood Drives
- Follow the 80-20 rule of promotion. Use 80% of the posts to engage, educate, and empower while 20% of your content can be promos.
- Follow Rule of Thirds - 1/3 agency/business, 1/3 Share competitor content, 1/3 Share personal human content.
- Share pictures of staff/officers in the holiday spirit. Public likes to know that we enjoy the holidays as well.
- Be careful not to over-share. Strike a balance.
- Schedule your content, WITH CAUTION - Use services like Hootsuite, Buffer, or Edgar
Tony MooreTony Moore is a deputy sheriff with a large southern California law enforcement agency. His expertise is in social media and internet investigations, crypto-currencies, emerging internet trends and public information. He is a certified POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) instructor with the State of California, teaching classes on social media, public information, internet investigations and computer forensics via the California Department of Justice (CADOJ).
Tony also instructs for Basic Cybercrime Investigation Course at the University of Southern California (USC) Viterbi School of Engineering. He’s been a guest speaker at the International Association Chiefs of Police (IACP) Annual Conference, Social Media, the Internet and Law Enforcement (SMILE) Conference, the Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Annual Detective Symposium, the California Crime Prevention Officers Association (CCPOA) Convention, and CFED West’s Annual Convention on the same topics.
In 2015, Tony was the recipient of the Peace Officers Association of Los Angeles County (POALAC) - Centurion Award for "Excellence in Innovative Communications and Government Social Media" and the Golden Post Award for "Best Use of Social Media in Solving Crime."RIPL
