On this episode of the Law Enforcement Social Media Podcast and COPS on Blab, we interview Minister Sherman Jones regarding the sexual exploitation of children. Sherman Levelt Jones Sherman was born in Los Angeles California on December 5, 1958. He lived the first half of his life under the guidance of his mother’s parents the late Jesse and Mary Everette in Los Angeles, California before moving to San Jose, California at the age of thirteen (13) to live with his mother. As a youth he always had customer service jobs and participated in sports. He attended and graduated Piedmont Hills High School where he was a Student Athlete in Track and Field in 1976. He was a member of both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relay teams that were finalist in the California High School State Meet in 1976. After graduating High School, he attended San Jose City College. He is proud to say that his San Jose City College 4 x 100 Relay Team were California State Champions. No to mention his team set both California State and U.S National 4 x 100 Relay Records in 1977. In 1978, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country for three (3) years on Active Duty and three (3) years Active Reserve Duty as an Aviation Ordinance man. He was the Navy's 100 meter Track and Field Champion for three (3) years. He was Honorable discharged from the Navy and attended San Jose State University on a Track and Field Scholarship. He majored in Social Science with a concentration in Black Study’s and minored in Sociology with a concentration in Youth Counseling. He answered the call from God and went into Ministry in 1995. Sherman came from a family of Pastors that had a passion for serving their community, especially the youth. In 2012 he attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Christian and Biblical Study’s from Aenon Bible College West Coast Campus in Los Angeles and a Masters Degree in Biblical Counseling from the California School of Theology in Los Angeles.

He always had a desire to work with Youth and was blessed to have held jobs such as, The Special Events Coordinator for the City of San Jose, Parks and Recreation. He was a liaison for the Mayor’s office worked closely with the Office on Child Care for the City of San Jose; his team created and facilitated events for over four thousand (4,000) students throughout the City of San Jose. He later transferred to City Wide Youth Programs Division where his duties were to provide self-esteem, motivation, leadership, and job search workshops for both youth and adults throughout the city of San Jose. He was later promoted to Teen Activist for Community Change and Leadership Education (TACCLE) Coordinator for the city of San Jose. This program was overseen by Stanford University’s Self Esteem and Disease Prevention Center in conjunction with North Carolina University. A grant was given to study the effects of tobacco on our youth.

Over the past twenty (20) plus years Sherman has worked as a counselor for Court Dependent Abuse/Abandon children. In the course of his duties, he has had the opportunity to work with a variety of denominations in the Church Community, also a variety of Civic, Non-Profit, and Profit Organizations.

The serious crime of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) and the need for Pastors (especially Pastors with a background in Christian Counseling) to get involved was first brought to Sherman's attention by his wife Alisha after she had attended a Riverside County CSEC Training. He than started going to CSEC Training classes and received a CSEC Trainers Certificate from the County of Los Angeles. During this time, Sherman also saw a void in educating communities concerning the “Human Slavery of Children.” As a result Sherman founded Team New Birth. One of the major recruiting tools that CSEC exploiters use to recruit their victims is the youth themselves! Sherman believes that the youth could also be used conversely as a weapon to help combat the sexual exploitation of children as well. Team New Birth is the CSEC Education and Prevention Division of Ferree’s Group Homes Inc. Ferree’s Group Homes is a non-profit organization that has been providing housing, therapy and counseling for court dependent abused, Abandoned, and youth on Probation for over 25 years. Ferree’s Group Homes have served youth from Riverside County, San Bernardino County and Los Angeles County. Also Ferree’s Group Homes has a history of buying, selling, renting homes to moderate and low Income families.

Sherman has over 20 years of experience working with and developing programs for at risk youth, he knows that God made eradicating Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children a Mission for him. Sherman's was quoted as stating, “Our Soul Belongs to God and It Is Not For Sale!”
