Serena came out to her parents in her mid-twenties. At the time, she was living in New York City, while her father was a prominent pastor in the Chinese American community in the Bay Area. They agreed to meet in Miami, where she broke the news over dinner at a nice restaurant. It … did not go well. It takes incredible courage for any young person to come out to their parents and then suffer the consequences. For them to nevertheless maintain their Christian faith is simply remarkable. Serena talks about her coming out experience, her relationship with her parents today, what it’s like to be a queer wife and mother, and also PAAC Family, and the upcoming PAAC Family retreat. Thank you Serena for being such a great guest! And thanks everyone for listening!

“Community cannot take root in a divided life. Long before community assumes external shape and form, it must be present as a seed in the undivided self: only as we are in communion with ourselves can we find community with others.” – Parker Palmer
