In the tenth episode of The Pop Culture Lens podcast, Christopher Olson and CarrieLynn Reinhard welcome friends of the podcast Joe Belfeuil (from the Godzilla episode) and Clelia Sweeney (from the Freaks episode) to discuss a classic ozploitation film, Mad Max (1979).

George Miller's feature debut was discussed in light of all the sequels that followed it, including the most recent, Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). The discussion focuses on the relationships between violence, masculinity, feminism and dystopia across these four films, and how these relationships change as time goes by. Of particular interest is how the Mad Max character becomes a cipher, a representation of the archetypal "Man With No Name" figure that allows for telling a variety of stories that explore what causes dystopia and how to rebuild civilization out of that darkness.

Also, the end music is from the great, the one-and-only, Tina Turner, and her delicious role in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985).
