It has been two weeks since the City of Vancouver announced modular housing units for the homeless would be constructed on a plot of land at the northeast corner of West 59th Avenue and Heather Street. Since the announcement, residents of the area have been protesting the city’s decision by saying they were not consulted on the location for the modular homes. One of the main complaints is that the housing would be too close to schools.

However, a Facebook group popped up in the last few days entitled, Marple Students for Modular Housing. In one of their posts they the group writes, “The City of Vancouver has planned to construct two temporary modular housing units in order to alleviate the pressure from people seeking low-income housing. However, a certain group of people are actively protesting the building of these houses while posing as students of Sir Wilfred Laurier Elementary and Sir Winston Churchill Secondary. We would like to raise awareness to this issue and demonstrate how students here are incredibly SUPPORTIVE of this initiative.”
