Do you consider yourself a creative person? As a business owner, there’s something incredibly exciting when you get an idea. It’s that feeling of coming up with something, solving a problem — being creative. How can you hone this skill (because yes, it is a skill!)? Just remember the 3 C’s: Curiosity, Constraints, and Conflict.

Curiosity

This is first and foremost the most important element of creativity. If you’re not interested in learning, exploring, and experimenting, you’re going to find it very hard to come up with ideas or find solutions to problems. Cultivate your curiosity, mentally expand on what you learn, and the ideas will happen.

Constraints

Constraints or restrictions create a wall to bounce ideas off of. Having that challenge can really help with creativity!

Conflict

Many people shy away from conflict, but when we’re isolated in our creative efforts, the results are lackluster at best. Share your ideas with people who will be honest about them, so you can hone your thinking and produce better ideas, projects, campaigns, and pitches. It might not be comfortable, but it’s worth it!
