What do diabetes and arthritis have in common? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Are you one of the hundred million people in the US struggling with diabetes? If so, you may want to listen up. A new study out of Nordsjaellands University Hospital found that diabetics are more likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and osteoporosis. Scientists working on the study believe that this link could be caused by chronic inflammation from high blood sugar. They also found that diabetics who exercised regularly and ate well were less likely to develop the other conditions. Looks like it is time to break out the workout clothes.
