How often are you holding hands with your spouse? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. In today’s rush-rush world we can forget to stop and hold the hand of our spouse or significant other. Not holding hands could be a big mistake. Some studies show that couples that hold hands have a stronger bond. That may be because our skin has receptors that increase our levels of oxytocin, the love hormone, when activated through touch. This hormone also helps provide comfort and reduce levels of stress. Next time you are walking with your loved one, or simply watching a movie together, hold hands. Make it a habit to touch each other as often as possible. If your significant other is going through a particular stressful time at work or otherwise, be sure to give them extra support by rubbing their arms or back. This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas, a global leader in preventative and proactive health.
