Do you know your waist to height ratio? You should. This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. New research out of Latin America suggests that anxiety is higher in women with larger waist to height ratios. They studied 5,580 women with a mean age of 49.7 years. 58 percent were postmenopausal, and 61.3 percent reported anxiety issues. I don’t think they actually needed a study to tell us that a large waist in women is a risk factor for anxiety. When you look at the age studied and consider menopause, of course the risk for anxiety goes up. Furthermore, smaller waist size usually indicates a more active lifestyle. We all know that exercise decreases anxiety. This study only confirms that we already know, hormone balance and exercise curb anxiety, as well as keep your body lean. This stay young medical minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas, a global leader in preventative and proactive health. Visit emtexas.com to learn why patients come from all over the globe to see the experts at Executive Medicine of Texas. EMTexas.com
