Our second feed drop for the month of November is an interview Stephen had with the wonderful Dalia Kinsey of Body Liberation for All! Check her work out at: www.daliakinsey.com

"Representation matters. Being treated as invisible or inconsequential in the stories told in your country is damaging. This experience is not just a black experience. This the experience of all marginalized folx. Underrepresentation and erasure are familiar to BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and disabled folx. Anyone who falls outside of the mythical norm (white, cis, het) is only recently finding their experience reflected back at them in film. In addition to being damaging and frequently unrelatable, always getting entertainment through the same ole stale white, cis, het lens, is really freaking boring.

I started to seek out different voices through literature fairly early on (90s) but still was really disappointed that there wasn't a more interesting variety of narratives in mainstream American films. The good news is the 80s and 90s are behind us and in a lot of ways the gatekeepers are gone. Thanks to advances in technology and the relentless creativity of marginalized folx you can access voices and storylines that Hollywood continues to ignore.

Today’s guest is a both a queer person and connoisseur of horror film. Our discussion of living and loving media that doesn’t always love you back is riveting. I love the balance of depth and levity that Stephen brought to this chat." - Dalia Kinsey
