The Strands That Bind Us –
Today we talk to Steve Courtney who is the Senior Concepts Director and former Head of New Product Innovation at Dyson. He has been at the forefront of pioneering Dyson technology for the past 23 years.
Steve has been described as Dyson’s resident ‘blue sky thinker’, and spends his days in Dyson’s secretive D9 research facility, a mirrored glass, impenetrable cube where, as he explains “we have a group of people who only think about the future.”
Dyson’s mission is simple: to solve problems others ignore. Finding these problems sits at the heart of Steve’s role – cordless vacuums that have no suck, noisy fans with spinning blades, heavy, hot and noisy hair dryers. Steve and the team search for novel ways to solve them, engineering technology that is different, better and pioneering. It was Courtney’s idea to use the motor to power the Dyson SupersonicTM Hair Dryer.
