This is episode 50 of The Truth Tank On this episode, We will be taking a deep dive into the fifth and final instalment of the Indiana Jones Series. First up an in depth review of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny; What worked and What didn’t? The Good, The Bad and The Annoying. The film was plagued with problems from its several year delay of the theatrical release, to Spielberg stepping down as director, to numerous rewrites of the script, Covid, on set injuries, poor test screenings, reshoots and running over budget. Secondly, We will look at the astronomical budget. The Dial of Destiny is Lucasfilm’s most expensive film they have produced, Needing to make nearly 900 million to make a profit. Indy 5 isn’t the only Big Budget summer blockbuster to under perform this year. It’s one of a growing list of movies that have not only under performed at the box office but have failed to make any kind of profit. Disney’s last 3 movies have lost nearly a billion dollars, you’ve really got to ask; What is the problem? Is this the new normal for big budget films? Has streaming and the cost of living changed what studios should expect to make with their big releases? And finally, We will look at how the Dial of Destiny compares box office wise to the previous 4 Indy films and was Phoebe Waller-Bridge the reason behind some of the re-writes?
