TRUELIGHT BOOKS written by Jane Buttery Born to Welsh parents in 1936, Jane Buttery grew up in England where she earned an honours history degree in 1959. After living in Malaysia where she taught for over 4 years, and traveling in the Far East, she came to Canada with her husband in 1965. Since then, she has taught and lived in Essex County. Her keen interest in this community has led her to write books about the area. She believes young children can relate to places they know well such as, the Harrow Fair, Colasanti’s, Jack Miner’s Bird Sanctuary and historic Amherstburg. Her motto is to celebrate where we all live in books that educate as well as entertain. As a Christian, Jane is involved in her local Anglican Church and really enjoys leading Bible studies, offering pastoral care, and writing about Church events. Jane has done volunteer work with the Hospice of Windsor for 30 years. Fifteen years ago, she began recording and writing life stories for local people; she has been pleased to do some with patients for their families to keep For over ten years (1991-2003), Jane was involved with the educational programs for the Windsor Symphony. Her love of music led her to sing with the W S Chorus write several educational guides for teachers which were well received. She is a regular supporter of WSO concerts and loves classical music as well as the theatre. But she still makes time to write for children and enjoys visiting schools to talk about creative writing. her books and about local history as well as giving powerpoint presentations on writing life stories. Her recent books include two picture books called True Friends and It’s a Grandma Day. She is thankful for her wonderful illustrator, Marilyn Mclean who illustrated two picture books, two early readers, as well as the cover and sketches in Two at the Crossroads. Surprise! Surprise! God is a Surprise, published with Marilyn in 2018 reveals her love of the Bible She married a research scientist Brian and they have two daughters, two grandsons and a great-granddaughter.
